Proseperity the wonder horse

I have Prosperity at Lifesavers working in the arena with obstacles this week. Under saddle? Ummmm, not quite but she is trying! And trying, and trying, and trying. I am trying to build her confidence, allow her to be herself and not push her when she is scared, and still teach her that the saddle will not eat her.

She is comfortable with me laying across her bareback and will carry the saddle (after a few bucks) but has not been ready for my butt to be planted on it. She has gotten to a point where I am able to stand in the stirrups (still bucking from the left side) and is really looking to me for reassurance. I keep telling her that it is not important, that I will not sacrifice our relationship for a competition. She is soooo close and I often just want to do it! I can really see the changes from day to day and how she is now exploring her options ,running away at liberty shaking her head at me, then coming back to me asking to be rubbed on her eyes.

This horse will be so quiet when she is broke but she is taking a longer time to get there. I see the differences between her and Free, often thinking that I could not have had two more different horses if I had deliberately looked for them. Free was so confident with objects, having no fear of obstacles or the saddle but he was really nervous of people. He bonded with me and had no other leader. Prosperity is afraid of objects but loves all people if they rub her forehead. She is willing to follow you and loves to play at liberty. Freedom fought me for the joy of playing at liberty, telling me that I was not strong enough to lead him and he would lead instead. Prosperity wants to be loved on, and loves her hair brushed. I am so hoping for the best owner for this beautiful girl, someone who wants to keep her forever and ever and never let her go......

That's what we all want for the horses we care for. If they go down the road we want that road to be a safe and happy one with a home forever.
