Day three

Today his friend is gone and my mustang is a little bit more hesitant without his big buddy to stand by him. We started off the session in the roundpen using the hose to spray water on him. He was a little nervous but like everything got over it quickly. Then we worked on moving in the roundpen comfortably both directions. He still is nervous on his left eye. He is learning to take his hip away when I put energy on it. I haltered him and started the real work on teaching him to give to the halter. This he did not really think sounded like a good idea and my big boy protested. After some pulling on me, some rearing, and a few tail swishing he decided that it was less work to co-operate. Then I realized that he was nervous of my carrot stick hitting the ground so we worked a long time on getting him to "Whoa" and not to panic at the sound. Again some rearing and slamming his front feet hard before he settled down. I don't think bucking will be the issue but I would guess he is quite light on his front end. Then after working that through and getting him to yield his shoulder and hip; we went out of the roundpen and into the arena. He is leading half way decent now but with some sluggishness typical of the introverted horse. He learned quickly to walk over the bridge, walk over the barrels and push the ball. Then somewhere along the way all this lack of sleep made me slap happy and I started doing crazy Angi stuff to him. I taught him to come up beside the fence so I could rub his withers and sit on his bare back. I sat on the big ball we have and bounced beside him next to his back. I stood on a barrel, gripped his mane, and proceeded to get him to roll me a few steps. All this he tolerated pretty well. What a quiet horse this will be. So I lead him out of the arena and across the yard to the pen he stays in all with no real issue. Good boy! Better keep your eyes on this one!
